Oral and maxillofacial surgery covers surgical procedures involving the teeth, jaws, mouth, and surrounding facial structures. These procedures go beyond routine dental treatment and require a higher level of surgical skill, planning, and aftercare.
At Klinik Pergigian Polidental, we perform a range of oral and maxillofacial surgical procedures in a clinical setting under local anaesthesia, without the need for a hospital admission. For cases that require specialist-level intervention or general anaesthesia, we will refer you to the appropriate specialist and ensure a smooth and well-coordinated handover.
Most procedures require a consultation first, during which our in-house specialist will assess your situation, recommend treatment, and provide a cost breakdown.
Minor oral surgery encompasses several procedures, each tailored to the specific condition being treated.
When a tooth cannot be removed through conventional means, a surgical approach is often necessary for teeth that are broken at the gum line, have complex root structures, or are firmly embedded in the surrounding bone.
Placing a dental implant involves a minor surgical procedure to insert a titanium post into the jawbone, performed under local anaesthesia. In cases where there is insufficient bone to support an implant, bone grafting may be carried out beforehand or at the same time.
Bone grafting restores lost jawbone volume to support dental implants or to preserve the structure of the jaw after an extraction. The procedure involves placing bone graft material into the deficient area to encourage the body’s own bone-forming cells to rebuild the jaw over time.
Jaw cysts are fluid-filled sacs that can form within the jawbone or surrounding tissue. They are typically identified on routine dental X-rays. Depending on the size and nature of the cyst, treatment may involve surgical removal of the cyst lining, or a procedure called marsupialisation.
TMJ dysfunction due to teeth grinding, bite misalignment, injury, etc can cause a range of symptoms including jaw pain and headaches. Initial management may include an occlusal splint or night guard to reduce the load on the joint. For complex cases, further intervention will be considered.
Corrective jaw surgery may be required for severely misaligned upper and lower jaws, which can affect chewing, speech, and long-term dental health. We can assess, plan, and carry out the full scope of jaw alignment treatment at our clinic, including the surgical component.
Before a denture or other prosthesis can be fitted, the underlying bone and tissue sometimes need to be prepared. Pre-prosthetic surgery addresses irregularities such as sharp ridges, bony projections, or uneven contours, that would cause discomfort or prevent a prosthesis from fitting properly.
Dr. Ahmad Anas is our in-house oral and maxillofacial surgery specialist, bringing over 13 years of clinical experience to the team. He holds a Master of Clinical Dentistry in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from the University of Malaya and has completed membership examinations with both the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
His areas of expertise include dental implants, bone and soft tissue grafting, sinus lift surgery, surgical removal of impacted teeth, jaw cyst removal, salivary gland disease management, and dental trauma care.
Having a specialist of this level available in-house means that patients requiring advanced oral surgical treatment can be assessed, planned, and treated at our clinic, without the need for an external referral or a separate hospital visit.
Some conditions benefit from early surgical intervention before they worsen or become more complex to treat. You should come in for an assessment if you are experiencing any of the following:
Many of these conditions are manageable when identified early. Delaying treatment often makes the eventual procedure more involved and the recovery longer.

The young dentist took time to clearly explain the entire extraction procedure before and after, which made me feel well-informed and comfortable.

We are very satisfied with the doctor who treated both of my kids. He knows how to calm my daughter as she was so nervous to do her tooth extraction. And he is so patience too handle my son while doing his tooth check up.

The doc did great at extracting my tooth and it took around 15-20mins tops. I’m just hoping the recovery will be a bliss too after the anesthesia takes off 🤣

Went here for scaling and wisdom tooth removal. The dentist was very calm. The other staffs too acted professional and didn’t make me feel embarrassed about my terrible teeth.

Dr Razman was professional and friendly at the same time. He took the time to explain the step-by-step process to me. Also, even before the extraction of tooth (which I needed done), he gave me all the time I needed to ask as many questions as I wanted.

No. You can book a consultation directly with us. If your condition requires specialist-level care beyond what we provide at our clinic, we will arrange the appropriate referral and support you through that process.
The procedures we perform at our clinic are carried out under local anaesthesia, meaning you will be awake but fully numb in the area being treated. General anaesthesia is not required for these procedures. If your condition requires general anaesthesia, we will refer you to the appropriate facility where this can be safely administered.
The procedure itself should not be painful as the area is completely numbed beforehand. After the anaesthetic wears off, it is normal to experience some degree of discomfort, swelling, and stiffness for several days. This is manageable with prescribed or over-the-counter pain relief and typically improves steadily over the first week.
Minor oral surgery refers to straightforward surgical procedures such as surgical extractions, abscess drainage, and soft tissue procedures that are routinely performed in a dental clinic.
Oral and maxillofacial surgery is a broader term that includes all of these procedures as well as more complex interventions involving the jaws, facial bones, and surrounding structures.
Jaw cysts that are small and not causing symptoms are sometimes monitored rather than treated immediately, but they should never simply be ignored. Cysts have a tendency to grow slowly over time, and as they expand they can weaken the surrounding bone, damage adjacent tooth roots, and become more complex to remove. Regular monitoring with X-rays is essential, and most cysts will eventually require surgical treatment.
This depends on the condition of the bone and surrounding tissue at the time of extraction. In some cases an implant can be placed immediately at the same appointment. In others, a healing period of two to four months is recommended before implant placement. If significant bone loss has occurred, a bone graft may be needed first, which extends the timeline further. We will advise on the most appropriate sequence during your consultation.
Any unusual growth, persistent ulcer, or sore in the mouth that has not healed within two to three weeks should be assessed by a dentist as soon as possible. In most cases there is a straightforward benign explanation, but early assessment is always the safest approach. Do not wait to see if it resolves on its own beyond this period.
Whether you need a surgical extraction, drainage of an abscess, or treatment for a soft tissue concern, our team is here to guide you through it safely and gently. Book your consultation at Klinik Pergigian Polidental today and take the first step toward better oral health.
